Sharon Durant

 
 

Sharon Durant is a freelance musician, choir leader and composer.

Sharon worked for many years at Sage Gateshead as Vocal Strand leader. She directs several community choirs and runs training days for singing groups and teachers. She is in demand internationally, and has undertaken vocal project work for the British Council in Senegal, Siera Leone, Canada, Brazil and throughout the UK.

Previous The Sage Gateshead projects include: Youth Chorus Leader for  commissioned contemporary opera: Skellig, managing the Community Music Apprenticeship, leading the Vocal Curriculum at The Sage Gateshead’s weekend school, Vocal Animateur for the Paul Hamlyn ‘Unlocking the Future’ project across secondary education in Tees Valley inspiring KS3 teachers to enliven singing in the classroom and Musical Director for A Winter’s Tale, a piece of musical theatre by Howard Goodall and Nick Stimson, commissioned by The Sage Gateshead.

 

Sharon also performs as part of Mouthful, a four piece vocal ensemble who pushes the boundaries of vocal possibility and successfully devises and composes new vocal material.


She writes and arranges songs for choirs, with her song ‘Chinese Proverb’ has recently been recorded by Sweet Honey in the Rock for their latest children’s album ‘Experience….101’.
